Privacy policy
This page explains what data we receive through the website, why we need it, how long we keep it and how you can control it. Processing follows the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and Latvian law.
Who processes the data
The data controller is Andrejs Arnautovs, lawyer, practising in Riga, Latvia. For any question about data processing write to andrei@arnautov.lv or call +371 28 858 997.
The practice has no separate data protection officer (DPO): enquiries are handled by the lawyer himself.
What data we receive
Through the enquiry form: your name, phone number, e-mail (if you provide one), the description of your question and the service page you wrote from.
Automatically together with the enquiry: IP address, browser details, page address and site language. We need this to tell people from bots and to understand the context of the enquiry.
If you write on WhatsApp, Telegram, by e-mail or call, we receive the data you share yourself and the conversation history in that channel.
Why we use it
To answer your enquiry, assess the question, propose a plan of action with timing and cost, and - if work continues - to handle your matter.
We do not use form data for newsletters and do not pass it to third parties for marketing.
On what legal basis
Answering an enquiry and preparing an offer are steps taken at your request before entering into a contract (Article 6(1)(b) GDPR).
Protecting the form against spam and abuse is our legitimate interest (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR).
If special category data appears in the correspondence (for example about health or criminal records), we process it in connection with legal assistance and the protection of your rights (Article 9(2)(f) GDPR). Separate consent is not required, but you may hold back anything sensitive until we speak in person.
How long we keep it
Enquiries that did not lead to work are kept for up to two years from the last contact, so that we remember the history if you come back with the same question.
If an engagement follows, case materials are kept for as long as the lawyer's professional duties and the law require, and are deleted afterwards.
Who else sees it
The data is seen by the lawyer handling your question. The website and its database are hosted with a Latvian hosting provider, which acts as a processor and does not use the data for its own purposes.
Data goes to third parties only where your matter requires it and you have agreed (for example a notary, a court, a public authority), or where the law obliges us to share it.
We are bound by professional secrecy: information obtained while providing legal assistance is not disclosed.
Cookies and statistics
The site uses only technical cookies it cannot work without: the session and the form's protection against request forgery. They do not build a profile of you and do not track you on other sites.
There are no external analytics systems or advertising pixels on the site. If any are added, we will update this policy and ask for consent before switching them on.
Your rights
You may request access to your data, its correction or erasure, restrict the processing, object to it, and receive your data in a portable form. Send your request to andrei@arnautov.lv - we reply within one month.
If you believe we have breached the rules, you may complain to the Latvian State Data Inspectorate (Datu valsts inspekcija, dvi.gov.lv) or go to court.
